WHEN SHOULD YOU WASH YOUR HANDS
After using the toilet or changing a nappy
Before and after handling raw foods like meat and vegetables
Before eating or handling food
After blowing your nose, sneezing or coughing
Before and after treating a cut or wound
After touching animals, including pets, their food and after cleaning their cages
Washing your hands properly removes dirt, viruses and bacteria to stop them spreading to other people and objects, which can spread illnesses such as food poisoning, flu or diarrhoea.
It can help stop people picking up infections and spreading them to others.
It can also help stop spreading infections when you're visiting someone in hospital or another healthcare setting.

How Coronavirus (COVID-19) Spreads
Because it's a new illness, we do not know exactly how coronavirus spreads from person to person.
Similar viruses are spread in cough droplets.
It's very unlikely it can be spread through things like packages or food.
Viruses like coronavirus cannot live outside the body for very long.
How to avoid catching or spreading germs
There are things you can do to help stop viruses like coronavirus spreading.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
Put used tissues in the bin immediately
Wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
DO NOT touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

How Can I protect Myself from contracting Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Because this virus is so new, not much is known about it yet. Public health groups, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating. Check their websites for updates.
The new coronavirus appears to be spreading from person to person. It may be spread by respiratory droplets when someone infected with the virus coughs or sneezes. But it's unclear exactly how it spreads or how contagious it is, and research is ongoing. Signs and symptoms of infection with the new coronavirus can be mild to severe and include a fever, cough and shortness of breath.
A coronavirus vaccine isn't currently available.
Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Use of Surgical masks is not effective.
Respirator type masks can be effective if used as part of a personal protection system.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth if your hands aren't clean.
Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick.
Clean surfaces you often touch.
Stay home from work, school and public areas if you're sick.
If you're planning to travel internationally, first check the gov.uk and WHO websites for updates and advice. Also look for any travel advisories that may be in place where you plan to travel.
